I mentioned before how I would post more photos from from my trip to London so here we are. One of the things I definitely wanted to do while in England was see an old cemetery. These pictures are not from the cemetery I had planned on seeing (I couldn't find that one) but are still pretty neat nonetheless.
This is the pathway as you first walk in. The entrance to the yard is oddly placed on the corner, you go up this path and then it branches out into pathways all through the cemetery.
This statue is an angel kissing a child. I had never seen anything like it before.
All the statue grave markers were rather striking and beautiful. I would love to try to paint them one day.
I loved how overgrown and tucked away this cemetery was. It kind of felt like the place had been forgotten about. But just as I was leaving some visitors showed up, so it's all part of the charm of the place.
I found this statue a little creepy and sad. How fitting for a cemetery.
This headstone was the most interesting to me. It's the only wooden headstone in the whole graveyard and the oldest, that I could tell, with a barely readable date on it from the 1880's. Strange to think that's at least how old the cemetery is.
The earth taking over...
In case you can't make out the name, it's Grace Bullock who died June 1st 1921, being only two years and five months old. I wonder if her parents ever had any more children.
So that's my glimpse of an old London graveyard. The one I was actually looking for was called Hyde Park cemetery, that's supposed to be one of the largest and oldest in England and is in the middle of huge park. How I couldn't find it I have no idea. I didn't want to appear touristy so I didn't bother asking for directions. I'll have to catch it next time.
